No. Sports massage isn't only for competitive athletes. Appointments are available for anyone looking to manage feelings of muscular soreness or stiffness, recover from training or simply feel better.

Your first appointment begins with a short conversation about your goals, training or activity and anything you'd particularly like to focus on. Your session is then tailored to you rather than following a standard routine.

Sports massage doesn't need to be extremely painful to be worthwhile. Pressure can be adjusted throughout your appointment based on your preference and how you respond.

There isn't one ideal frequency for everyone. It depends on your training, preferences, goals and how useful you find treatment. Some people book around periods of heavier training while others occasionally when they feel they would benefit.

Wear something comfortable. Sports clothing is recommended where possible. Depending on the area treated, you may be asked to remove some clothing, but you will be appropriately covered and your comfort and privacy will be respected throughout the appointment. For upper-body treatment, women may find wearing a sports bra more convenient.

You can usually remain active after sports massage, although how you feel afterwards can vary. If you have an important training session or competition, it may be worth considering the timing and intensity of your massage (this is discussed in the conversation prior to your treatment).

Sports massage may be useful for managing symptoms such as muscular soreness or stiffness but it is not a replacement  for appropriate medical assessment or physiotherapy. If your symptoms suggest that massage may not be appropriate, you may be advised to seek assessment from a suitable healthcare professional.
